Assad at Homs Aid Center
This video clip is from a Syrian television broadcast. It shows President Assad and his wife being greeted as they arrive at an aid distribution center in Homs. This report is clearly trying to paint Assad as 'good' to the people of his country. Because of the censorship that is going on this is what is what the state chooses to air. I could see these broadcasts angering the people of the revolution. The state controls the media and chooses not to air any of the brutality that the regime enforces.
I would imagine that most Syrians can see right through the propaganda that is broadcasted. But yes, in rural areas I wonder if people are exposed to the violence of the regime.....I also think about the people who support President Assad. Do they see all of the violence that we see in the US?
ReplyDeleteAs I watched this video I was drawn down to the comments beneath and as I had thought myself, the media portrays him to be a good and almighty President when in fact most of the comments were negative. For instance:
ReplyDelete"I'm from Saudi Arabia.
people here hate assad, and we try to support them by fundraising.
but no one try to stop this monster :("
There is certainly a lot of anger and outrage at this video from people who claim to be from this area and aren't even Syrian but care. Media tries to control so much or our lives and this is a great example of how it is no different elsewhere in the world.
